Progress doesn't happen overnight. It happens over time.
Meet Jane

Jane* is raising her two young kids on her own while trying to rebuild her career. Making ends meet has been difficult. Life feels busy and overwhelming, and she often feels alone. When she comes across an ad for YWCA BC’s Single Moms’ Support Services, she decides to reach out. She hears back from a YWCA employee, and they listen, empathize and talk her through what stability could look like, on her terms. One conversation becomes the first step forward.

Through a YWCA Single Moms’ group, Jane meets other women navigating similar transitions. They share stories, resources and encouragement. She receives grocery gift cards to help her feed her children when budgets are tight. Steadily, her confidence grows. Support is no longer something she searches for alone. Support becomes something steady and shared.

When a home in one of YWCA’s affordable housing communities becomes available, Jane gets an opportunity to move in. A stable home doesn’t fix everything overnight, but it gives her and her kids something constant: a place to exhale, to plan, to build. Stability becomes the foundation for what comes next.

With housing and community in place, Jane connects with a career advisor through the YWCA Employment Navigator program. Together, they update her resumé and explore training pathways that align with her strengths. The goal isn’t a quick fix, it’s sustainable work that supports her and her children’s future.

Jane later receives a YWCA scholarship that reduces barriers to education and skill development. Each step builds on the one before it. Community supports confidence. Housing supports employment. Education supports long-term opportunity. This is how consistency creates change.

Jane’s journey continues. It is shaped by her determination and the reliable support around her. Progress doesn’t end at one milestone. It grows over time, when women have access to programs that walk alongside them, every step of the way.

Her story continues.
