Job Description
The Summer Student Placement Specialist (SSPS) will connect students between 15-30 to employers in their community. The target will be to serve 100 students. The SSPS will actively recruit students through existing partners, youth workers, and the local high schools and post- secondary institutions.
While all students will be provided with a service, special emphasis will be placed on recruiting students with social or employment barriers including literacy and numeracy and students who are members of a visible minority. Success will be defined by placing 70% of the student participants into paid employment or career-related volunteer placements. SSPS staff will survey all employers and student participants for feedback on the experience via a survey through survey monkey.
What you’ll be doing:
Student Engagement
- Implement the youth engagement strategy
- Visit local high schools to promote the program
- Connect with youth via social media to promote employment services
- Develop an online registration form for youth job seekers to complete
- Support youth to connect with summer jobs in the community
- Conduct a screening interview to match youth’s interests to the employer’s needs where applicable
- Conduct job search resume and interview workshops for all youth jobseekers
Employer Engagement
- Implement the summer jobs marketing plan with the wider WorkBC team
- Develop a marketing package with the YWCA Marketing Team to present to employers to actively solicit job postings for youth
- Meet with employers to present marketing packages
- Actively market our employment services to employers
- Take part in community events to promote our services
- Organize a youth hiring event featuring 5-10 local employers
- Match suitable youth job seekers to vacant jobs or volunteer opportunities
- Follow up in week one and four of the job with both the employer and the youth to ensure success in the workplace
Administration
- Record all client information, contacts and updates in the Summer Student Tracker
- Further develop our employer database with key contacts with Job development team
- Document all employer contacts
- Other duties as required
What you’ll need:
This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant. Eligibility requirements for participation in the Canada Summer Jobs program include:
- being between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- holding a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- being legally entitled to work in Canada as a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with protected refugee status
- being registered as a full‑time or part‑time post‑secondary student, or a student returning to full‑time studies in a related field
- (Please note: International students and other temporary residents are not eligible under Canada Summer Jobs program requirements)
You'll also need:
- Comfortable delivering presentations or workshops, with support and training provided
- Willing to engage in outreach activities, including contacting employers by phone or email
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, flexible, and inclusive environment
- Basic to intermediate computer and digital literacy skills (training provided as needed)
- Able to obtain a clear criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check

Pay Rate: $23.76 per hour
