Job Description
The Summer Student Placement Specialist (SSPS) will be responsible for connecting youth between the ages of 15-30 to employers in their community. The SSPS will actively recruit youth through existing partners at the Tri-Cities WorkBC centres (Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody), youth workers, local high schools, post-secondary institutions, Coquitlam School Board education centres, and local community agencies.
While all youth will be provided services, special emphasis will be placed on recruiting youth with social or employment barriers including youth who are early leavers from high school, recent immigrant youth, youth living with disabilities, single-parent youth, youth living in low-income households, youth experiencing homelessness or precarious housing, and racialized youth.
What you’ll be doing:
Student Engagement

Implement the youth engagement strategy
-
Visit local high schools to promote the program
-
Connect with youth via social media to promote employment services

Develop an online registration form for youth job seekers to complete
-
Conduct job search, resume and interview workshops for all youth job seekers

Conduct a screening interview to match youth’s interests to the employer’s needs where applicable
-
Connect with youth job seekers weekly while job seeking
Employer Engagement

Implement the summer jobs marketing plan

Develop a marketing package with the YWCA Marketing Team to present to employers to actively solicit job postings for youth

Meet with employers to present marketing packages
-
Actively market our employment services to employers

Organize a youth hiring event with a minimum of five employers

Match suitable youth job seekers to vacant jobs or volunteer opportunities

Follow up in week one and four of the job with both the employer and the youth to ensure success in the workplace

Create community events around job fairs for youth
Administration
-
Record all client information, contacts and updates on SharePoint with IT protocols in place
-
Further develop our employer database with key contacts with wider YWCA job development team

Document all employer contacts
-
Other duties as required
What you’ll need:
To take part in Canada Summer Jobs program, you must:
- be aged between 15 and 30 years old at the start of your summer job
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job and
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. This includes having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of your summer job.
(Please note: International students and other temporary residents are not eligible under Canada Summer Jobs program requirements)
You'll also need:

Comfortable delivering presentations or workshops, with support and training provided

Willing to engage in outreach activities, including contacting employers by phone or email

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, flexible, and inclusive environment

A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations).

Pay Rate: $23.76 per hour
