The YWCA Rooftop Garden is a vital part of our holistic approach to health, healing and community. Our head gardener and loyal volunteers plant, grow and harvest nutrient-dense fruit and vegetables that go directly to YWCA food programs. Every morsel goes directly into homemade meals served at YWCA Crabtree Corner Community Centre in the Downtown East Side. Last year, we harvested almost 1500lbs of food, and it helped us to serve close to 39,000 meals.
Throughout the spring, summer, and fall, we are welcoming corporate groups of up to 12 volunteers on Monday and Tuesday afternoons to help us tend to the gardens. The types of work will vary throughout the season, but will include such tasks as weeding, trimming, planting, harvesting, composting, seed collection and sorting.
How to Apply
