Health and Wellness Workshops: Stopping the Violence Summer Program

Event Description

An empowering space for self-identifying women who have experienced violence. We run several drop-in workshops a month ranging from expressive arts, to yoga and grief walks. All workshops are based in East Vancouver, close to the Broadway and Commercial Skytrain Station.

Dancing with Pain with Yin Choi
Tuesday, June 16, 2026 | 10:30am – 12:00pm

This compassionate workshop invites you to bring presence to pain and move through it with gentleness. You will be guided through self-care and attunement practices, incorporating elements of Reiki, meditation, and Authentic Movement.
Yin Choi is a therapist and interdisciplinary dance artist with over 20 years of training in martial arts, Reiki, expressive arts therapy, and somatic practices. She has been part of the YWCA community since 2007.


Sound Bowls and Healing with Rachel Hayek

Join Rachel for an immersive experience with sound and breath. Learn simple breathing techniques to support your daily life and cultivate calm and stillness. Experience deep rest while being supported by the healing frequencies of sound in a shared community space.


Grief Walk with Lisa Hartley (YWCA Staff)

It’s a busy time in our city, and lots of exciting things are happening, yet we also feel loss and change. Sometimes lonely.  A guided walk around Trout Lake supported by nature and the quiet presence of community.  Poetry, silence, and quiet conversations.

Looking at what stress is, how it affects us, the common causes and symptoms and strategies that may help with managing it. Please dress for the weather, and we will spend a little bit of time outside. 


Movement and Meditation with Lori Last
Wednesday, July 22 | 4:00 – 6:00pm

A gentle yoga-based class with breath and movement.

Lori has her 200-hour YTT and Yoga outreach yoga with a trauma lens certificate. She currently teaches at Open Door Yoga and brings a kind heart and gentle approach.
