27 New Homes in the Heart of Richmond
YWCA Metro Vancouver today opened 27 new, safe and affordable homes to single women and their children, in the heart of Richmond.
YWCA Moiz and Nadia Place is located within The Paramount development on No. 3 Road and was made a reality through our partnership with Keltic Development, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Government of British Columbia - BC Housing, and our lead donors, Moiz and Nadia Lalani.
YWCA Metro Vancouver Interim CEO Michelle Sing says: “The region’s housing crisis is deeply impacting women and single mothers. The pandemic has contributed to higher levels of food insecurity, isolation and gender-based violence. It is critical that people have safe homes they can afford to live in. The rents in these 27 new YWCA homes will be kept below market rates so that women and single mothers are able to relieve some of the burden of working and living during these challenging times.”
Kavitha Cariappa is thrilled to be one of the first residents to move into this new YWCA housing community with her two sons.

YWCA Moiz and Nadia Place is located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples, namely the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Tsawwassen and Kwantlen Nations.
For the first time, studio and one-bedroom units will also be available alongside our usual offerings of two- and three-bedroom units. In addition to serving single mothers and their children, we will also be offering housing for single women without dependents. Priority is being given to those who have fled violence from an intimate partner and those who wish to stay in the Richmond community.
YWCA Moiz and Nadia Place is close to Richmond Centre, grocery stores, Richmond Public Library, Richmond General Hospital, play areas and plenty of green spaces. Residents will also have access to the building’s many amenities including the large outdoor courtyard, barbecue and children’s play area, the amenity room, the gym, and more.
New Housing in Burnaby
Building housing for single mothers and their children continues to be a fundamental priority for the YWCA.
We are thrilled to be partnering with Qualex-Landmark Orchard to provide 32 new two- and three-bedroom homes in the heart of Burnaby. In an excellent location close to Metrotown, grocery stores, a library, Central Park and transit, this new YWCA housing community includes a beautiful outdoor play area and gathering space; it will provide much-needed homes for single mothers and their children living on low and moderate incomes. The building permit is expected in late spring, with occupancy in 2025.
Fundraising is underway, with 35% of our $11.8M goal raised. To ensure the project can proceed, we are urgently seeking support from donors to raise the remaining $7.7M.
