We Are Now YWCA BC
I know this new year begins amid real challenges for many. With that in mind, we’ve entered 2026 with resilience and hope for our next chapter, and today I’m pleased to share an important update: we are now YWCA BC.
Why we’re making this change
Over the past several years, we listened to community members, employees, participants, board members and partners. We asked what our name should represent and where it should take us next. We considered where we serve participants, and how our name reflects our values, our history and our commitment to advance truth and reconciliation.
We already serve participants across the province—not only in Metro Vancouver. Our strategic plan includes priorities to expand services beyond the region, especially in communities where women and families need more affordable housing and integrated services. The name YWCA BC reflects the work we are doing today and where we’re going.
The name change also helps clarify that we are not a religious organization. The letters in YWCA no longer stand for individual words but instead reflect our long history and impact in British Columbia.
While our name has changed, our purpose has not.
Our mission, vision and commitments to our participants and their communities remain the same. We will continue advancing gender equity through our advocacy and impactful programs that support people in their daily lives.
In the coming weeks, you’ll see our new name reflected on our website and social media channels. If you have questions, we’ve shared more details on our website.
As we begin this next chapter as YWCA BC, some people have asked how they can be a part of this moment. One simple way is through a donation. Gifts help us continue advancing gender equity through real, practical supports for women, children and families.
We are incredibly grateful for your continued support through this new chapter. Together, we are creating lasting and meaningful change in communities across the province.
Warmly,
Erin Seeley, CEO
