Job Description

About This Funded Opportunity: 

The United Way BC Work Experience Opportunities Grant is funded by the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia. It is open to individuals who face significant barriers to employment and receive BC Employment and Assistance (BCEA) - including Income Assistance, Disability Assistance (PWD), or Hardship Assistance (or the federal equivalent for on-reserve residents). Proof of assistance will be required. Participants will receive a stipend of $3,600 as remuneration; this is not a wage or salary.

 

What you’ll be doing:     

 

  • Provide one-to-one support to clients in a drop-in employment resource centre, assisting with a wide range of employment-related needs. 

  • Support clients with the WorkBC Online Employment Services application process. 

  • Facilitate employment-readiness workshops (in-person and online), including Resumes, Cover Letters and Interview Skills. 

  • Maintain current knowledge of labour market trends, job postings, employment issues, community resources, education and training pathways, volunteer opportunities, and other employment supports relevant to diverse client groups. 

  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes and records in accordance with WorkBC policy and contract requirements. 

  • Participate in hiring fairs and community engagement events, with a focus on strengthening employer connections. 

  • Attend staff meetings to discuss updates, client needs, and contribute to continuous improvement. 

  • Perform other related duties as required to support overall delivery of services. 

  

Anticipated Skills Utilized:   

 

  • Applies a range of entry to mid-level administrative, facilitation and technical skills.  

  • Provides customer service skills with a diverse range of individuals in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Provides clear information and instructions through email/phone/in-person communication with clients. 

  • Organizational and time management skills to effectively manage resources and timelines. 

  • Proficiencies using computers and various platforms including Microsoft Suite (Outlook, SharePoint, MS Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Zoom and other digital platforms. 

  • Attention to detail and accuracy. 

  • Flexible and adaptable. 

  • Interpersonal skills through collaborative working relationships in a team environment, applying professional communications and boundaries. 

  • Discretion, confidentiality and data security. 

  • Exposure to a work environment with a strong commitment to adherence of internal and external policies, procedures and guidelines. 

  • Working within an organization strongly committed to their mission and values, and promoting equity, diversity and inclusion, including advancing our commitments to Truth and Reconciliation. 

  • Working within an organization that applies a participant centred approach to all interactions, engages in continuous professional development, and applies sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA+) lens, interactions and activities.
