Opening the Door to Nature: The Nature Zone Returns

For the third year in a row, youth have had the opportunity to explore some of British Columbia’s beautiful provincial parks through The Nature Zone, made possible by the generous support of the BC Parks Foundation.

The Nature Zone gives youth the chance to get outside, explore new places, learn about wildlife and connect with nature. For some participants, these outings provide access to parks and outdoor experiences they may not otherwise have the opportunity to visit.

This year, youth took part in nine outings throughout August and September, visiting Shannon Falls, Golden Ears Park, Murrin Park,Cypress Park and Porteau Cove. One of the outings brought together participants from YWCA Gear Up, giving youth the opportunity to step away from their usual routines and experience the outdoors together.

From discovering new parks to learning about the natural environment and spending time outside with their peers, each outing offered a chance to explore, connect and experience something new.

"I would like to thank BC Parks and Career Zone for giving me the opportunity to explore the beautiful nature right in the backyard of my city. I had the chance to visit Murrin Provincial Park and hike up to the Quercus Viewpoint. The view was breathtaking and gave me a whole new appreciation for the vast landscapes, lush greenery, and dense forests we are lucky to have in British Columbia. From the viewpoint, I could see different islands and communities that I had never thought about exploring before.
